One of our most popular shrub species, as it provides a beautiful purple/maroon color to any landscape. This shrub has gained popularity recently as a "superfruit" as its berries have become increasingly recognized for their health benefits. It produces purple berries in large clusters in August, which makes excellent wines and jams, as long as you pluck the berries before the birds get to them! Medium shade tolerance; medium growth; prefers rich, moist loams.
