ABOUT

Mission

The Tuscola Conservation District is committed to assisting the residents of Tuscola County with the management of our Natural Resources in a sustainable way through education and implementation of conservation practices, sustaining the land for future generations.

History

On March 13th. 1943, several landowners in Elkland, Elmwood, Ellington, Almer, Juinata, and Indianfields townships petitioned for the creation of the Tuscola Conservation District. The first board of directors included: Dorr Perry, Erwin Zemke, R. Lester Hill, Bruce Brown, and Walter Goodall. On February 4th, 1944, Dean Gordan became the first federal employee in Tuscola. Today the district has 5 employees that include: District Manager, Drill Technician, Conservation Technician/Education Coordinator, MAEAP/CTAP Technician, and a Farm Bill Biologist.
