MAEAP Program

The Michigan Agricultural Environment Assurance Program (MAEAP) is an innovative program that assists farms of all sizes across the state to minimize the risk of agricultural pollution into surface and ground water sources. Through this free and confidential program, you can earn recognition as a top steward in the community while helping reduce erosion and runoff in Michigan's waterways. Steve Schaub, our MAEAP Technician, can work with you to identify potential risks and comply with state and federal environmental standards in 4 different systems: Farmstead, Livestock, Cropping, and Forest, Wetlands, & Habitat. Those who successfully complete the 3-phase process (education, risk assessment, and third-party verification) are rewarded by receiving a verification in that system. Farms can also be verified in multiple systems at once (if applicable).

Steve is here to help! He can provide on-farm assistance and answer many questions. Adopting some of MAEAP’s cost-effective practices will reduce the environmental risks associated with agriculture. Additionally, you will be one step closer to becoming MAEAP verified! MAEAP is a 100% free & confidential program representing a high level of responsible agricultural practices. This program was designed to meet the needs of Michigan farmers and foresters, all while having a positive impact on our environment. Over 5,000 Michigan farms have been verified, and if you're ready to add to the growing population of MAEAP verified farms, contact Steve today!

Education Opportunities

The Tuscola Conservation District believes that education is a key component to improving the environment. Patty McNinch is the District Education Coordinator, and her role is to provide environmental education to children and adults in the community. The Conservation District has had educational programs well established in the schools, but we will be expanding those programs and develop new programs to further promote conservation education in the county. We offer programs in Land Judging and Envirothon.

Patty McNinch, Education Coordinator

Education Coordinator

The Education Coordinator is available to give in-class presentations to schools, or to speak to civic groups. We have a Groundwater Model and an Enviroscape Model that we use to illustrate the movement of water above and below the ground. We have presentations on 'Conservation Practices and Their Importance', 'The Needs of Wildlife', 'Backyard Conservation' and 'The Roles of Trees in our Life'. We can also design a presentation to whatever conservation or environmental topic that you may want covered. If you are interested in these or any other presentation call Patty McNinch at 989-673-8174 ext. 3 or e-mail at patty.mcninch@macd.org
