Serbian Blue Spruce Transplant, 2-2, 16-22"
Introduced into our tree sale about 5 years ago, this spruce is nearly identical to the Colorado Blue Spruce, which is known for it's remarkable blue/white color and is one the of the preferred choices for Christmas trees. Grows in a variety of soils, but prefers moist soils, moderately shade tolerant. Mature height is 60-90'
The Serbian Blue Spruce is needle cast resistant, which is why we incorporated it into our tree sale as a substitute for the Colorado Blue Spruce. Please note that Colorado Blue Spruces are susceptible to Needle Cast Disease, which causes mature Colorado Blue Spruces to lose their needles starting from the bottom and working its way to the top. This fungal disease doesn't set in until 8-10 years or later, which still makes them an ideal choice if they're being harvested for Christmas trees. There is currently no treatment for this fungal disease.
