Famous for being our state tree, this native evergreen played a significant role in the the development of the United States. To this day it remains a valuable commercial timber tree as it's lightweight, straight-grained, and easy to work with. It's fast growth and graceful from make it an excellent choice for parks, landscapes, and windbreaks. It can reach 80-100' tall with a mature spread reaching 40'. It prefers full sun and needs the open space for it's large mature size. It's also known for being "deer candy" when young, so protection and/or fencing is recommended for the first few years of growth.
